Born in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province in 1937, with ancestral home Liaoning province, Zhang Kerang is a print artist, stamp design artist and watercolor painting artist. He graduated from the print department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and is honorary president of the Modern Watercolor Art Academy of Heilongjiang Province, member of China Artists Association, director of China Print Artist Association, judge of the National Watercolor (gouache) paintings exhibition, secretary-general of second session of watercolor art committee of China Artists Association, from 2 to 8 session of National Watercolor (gouache) Exhibition, the national judge from 9 to 10 session of national art exhibition, at the same time, he is senior editor of General China Fine Arts Publishing House, judge and professor of National Art Exhibition.
In 1964, he was assigned to serve in design studio of Stamp Circulation Bureau of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Beijing, engaging in the design of the stamp art. In 1986, he was transferred to the People's Fine Arts Publishing House, served as deputy editor-in-chief of "Print World" and deputy editor-in-chief of "Watercolor Art", editing the large-scale painting books such as "The Complete Works of Chinese modern fine arts - Volume Watercolor”, "The history of Chinese watercolor painting ", “China watermark engraving “and so on. His prints and watercolors have repeatedly been elected to the National Art Exhibition and national big exhibitions, and exhibition abroad, representing the country and won a number of awards. His engraving technique of black-and-white prints is mature, modeling accurate, contrast strong. Especially, in pen sketch, he is so unique, picture composition ingenious, lines smooth and vivid, and in particular, his watercolor painting, color noble, elegant, lyrical, loved by collectors.
Since 1987, he has successively held his personal watercolor painting exhibition in United States, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and etc. More than 100 works have been collected by Chinese and foreign art galleries, museums and individuals. He has won "Artistic Achievements Gold Award of Japan" and "Goddess Award", and "Lu Xun Award”,” Award for Outstanding Works", "Award for the Best Stamp" and etc. issued by the Ministry of Culture of China. His “Riverside of Ancient Canal” and “Folk House of the West Jiangxi” have been selected into China-century Watercolor Exhibition and edited into "China-century watercolor painting".
